Where Portland Coffee Box is stronger
Shipping is in the price. Every Portland Coffee Box product ships free in the continental U.S., so the box price is the whole price. Ours is $16.99 a bag plus shipping.
Bigger boxes and prepaid savings. It sells one, two, three and four bag boxes, plus a two-bag Micro Lot Box of small-lot coffees. Subscriptions take 5% off, and prepaid 6 and 12 month plans take 10% and 15% off. We top out at two bags a box.
Half-caff and a named roaster list. You can ask for a mix of regular and decaf bags in one box. Its roaster page names more than 30 roasters by name, including Heart and Dapper & Wise, two roasters we also list. Its two founders pack every box themselves, and its gift boxes include tasting notes, brewing tips and the roaster's story. It gives 1% of every order to environmental causes through 1% for the Planet.

Where we differ
All of Oregon, and only Oregon. Portland Coffee Box is a Portland box, and one roaster on its list is across the river in Washington. The roasters we list are all Oregon roasters, in Portland and far beyond it: Lone Pine, Backporch and Thump in Bend, Sisters Coffee in Sisters, Wandering Goat in Eugene, Noble in Ashland, Caravan in Newberg and Sleepy Monk in Cannon Beach. Buying from a roaster in a small town like Sisters or Cannon Beach keeps roasting work in that town. That is what supporting local means to us.
The roaster ships the bag. Our roasters roast to order and ship in their own bag and packaging, with our packing slip naming the roaster, their shop, their story and the tasting notes. Our first promise is "Roasted and shipped within 3 days." The others: "Free replacement if a bag disappoints." "A reminder email 3 days before each box." "Your ratings steer the next bag."
First bag free, and two roasters in one box. Your first bag is free and you pay $7.99 shipping. A box can hold two bags, and the second can have its own roast and style from a different roaster.
Ground coffee if you want it. We send whole bean or ground as a plan option. Portland Coffee Box's FAQ says it ships whole beans and will do its best to accommodate a request for ground.

Yes. Its boxes offer regular, decaf or half-caff, and its FAQ says decaf is available on request. Our plan builder has decaf as a style, and a two-bag box can pair a regular bag with a decaf one.
Can I get ground coffee from Portland Coffee Box?
Its FAQ says coffee ships as whole beans, and that it will do its best to accommodate ground on request. We send whole bean or ground as a plan option.
