Cycle Town Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Portland, founded in 2013. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The founders combined their coffee know-how with a love of the outdoors in 2013, and picked Portland because biking is a common way to get around. Part of the roasting is done on air roasters powered by electricity, which the company says lets it roast small batches fast and to order. The team claims more than 100 years of combined coffee experience, and says it buys only from farms it has a relationship with, all 100 percent Arabica of European grade.
In the electric air roasters the beans tumble inside a glass tube, which the company says gives an even color right through each bean. It pairs them with a drum roaster for larger batches. Beyond Fair Trade and organic lots, it runs its own Direct Trade check to confirm growers are treated and paid fairly, and everything is hand roasted and packed as ordered. Morning Ride is billed as its top seller, and every roast, from Amazon Trail to a Kona Blend, can be bought in 5 pound bags.

Roast levels run French roast and Italian roast. House blends include Morning Ride, Pearl District Blend, Powell Butte Blend, House, Amazon Trail and Kona Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Sumatra Dark Mandheling, Guatemala Antigua, El Colombiano and Ethiopian Guji. Espresso: Celestia Espresso. Decaf: Decaf Caffe Campanella.
