Elevator Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Portland, founded in 2016. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The company says head roaster Andrew Coe won the 2023 US Coffee Roasting Championship and then took third at the world championship in Taipei. Coe has since moved to St. George, Utah, where he roasts on electric machines, while the Portland roastery keeps running. Orders are roasted on Mondays and shipped or delivered locally on Tuesdays. The former Elevator cafe space in SE Portland is now Honey Latte Cafe.
Elevator was established in 2016 by Jay Sycip and operated a cafe in inner Southeast Portland through fall 2020. It now sells online and wholesale. Sycip co-owned Cafe Royale in San Francisco in the late 1990s, and he met Coe through the bike industry. Coe joined as roaster and coffee buyer in 2017, after barista work at Tully's in Seattle and years of home roasting. Most coffee runs through a Probat, while small lots such as its Finca El Diviso Java are roasted on a Stronghold S7 for more clarity.

What they roast
House blends include Ground Floor Blend, Counterweight Blend, Lift Blend and Guide Rail low caffeine Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Colombia Finca El Diviso Java, Colombia Jose Oliver Galindez, Guatemala Candelaria, Rwanda Busanze Natural and Ecuador Juan Pena Typica Mejorado.
