Extracto Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Portland. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Every coffee is hand roasted in small batches on a cast iron roaster built in 1951. The roasters aim for neither dark nor light. Instead they tune a profile to each crop, and only carry coffees the team enjoys drinking. Eleven of Spades is the house espresso blend, built for chocolate and dark fruit notes that hold up in milk drinks.
Guatemala Los Volcanes, a washed Antigua coffee from estates and small producers blended at a historic wet mill, is described as a long-standing house favorite. Other current lots come from family micro-mills near Santa Cruz Ozolotepec in Oaxaca and from the organic grower group COMSA in Marcala, Honduras. The decaf is a Mexican sugarcane process coffee. The team says it tastes many coffees from around the world and passes on any that do not make it happy to drink.
