Nossa Familia Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Portland, founded in 2004. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Founder Augusto Carneiro came from Rio de Janeiro to Portland for college, where he played tennis and studied engineering. After a few years as a mechanical engineer he quit to bring his family's coffee to Portland. His family has grown coffee in the Brazilian highlands since the 1890s. The business began in 2004 with no cafe and no roaster: his family shipped him a container of coffee on consignment and he found buyers for it. The name means our family in Portuguese. Nossa opened a Pearl District roasting facility in 2012 and, after a Kickstarter campaign, an espresso bar in the same building in 2013. At the end of 2017 it moved roasting to Northwest Industrial Portland and added a second, larger Loring roaster, and in 2018 it opened a zero waste cafe at Seven Corners on SE Division St.
The family farms in Brazil's Sul de Minas and Cerrado regions remain at the heart of its direct trade model. Over time it added coffees from Guatemala, Nicaragua, Peru, Ethiopia and elsewhere, usually from farms or cooperatives it has visited. Nossa calls itself Oregon's first Certified B Corp coffee roaster. It commits 1% of annual gross profits to its giveback program and says it has given more than $667,000 in cash and in kind since 2004. Augusto still rides his bike to work, and the signature Full Cycle blend nods to cycling: since 2015, 50 cents from every bag has gone to bicycle nonprofits.
What they roast
Roast levels run light, medium, medium-dark and dark. House blends include Full Cycle, Teodoro's Italian Roast, Ernesto's House Roast, Mathilde's French Roast, Augusta's Organic Breakfast, Camila's Organic and Delicia do Brasil. Single origins on the list when we checked: Nicaragua Finca San Jose de las Nubes (washed, natural, anaerobic Salvaje and Maragogipe lots), Guatemala Finca San Jeronimo Miramar and Kenya Mbandi (Roaster's Choice). Brazil Decaf, a medium roast from the family farm line; the method is not stated. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-27.
Where to drink it
Two Portland cafes are open daily. The roastery and offices in Northwest Industrial Portland are listed with visitor directions, but no retail hours.

Why buying from Nossa Familia Coffee matters here
Its Seven Corners Cafe, opened in summer 2018, is in the Seven Corners Collaborative building, headquarters of Community Vision, a nonprofit helping Oregonians with disabilities live and work in their communities. Nossa has offered work to participants in Community Vision's employment program. Since 2013 it has run the p:ear Barista School, an eight week course teaching homeless and transitional youth barista skills along with job and life skills. Full Cycle donations have supported Portland area groups including Bike Works by p:ear, Community Cycling Center, NW Trail Alliance and The Street Trust. Since 2018 it has roasted Next Generation Coffee, sold only at New Seasons Market stores; each bag sends $1 to a young farmers fund in Guatemala.
Its wholesale business supplies local grocery stores, cafes and restaurants. Permanent staff get 16 hours of paid volunteer time a year to help in the community.
Every bag bought from a Portland roaster pays roasting and cafe wages in Oregon, and the coffee reaches you days after roasting instead of months. That is the reason the club exists. Why local roasters matter.
