Abba Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Portland, founded in 2019. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Roasting began in 2019 as a small effort for the owners' community and for fundraisers abroad. Strong feedback on those batches led them to set up the business. The team describes years of trial and error spent learning how each coffee has its own flavor, and says it roasts to bring those traits forward. Its house Pearl Blend pairs Colombian and Kenyan coffees in a medium-dark roast with orange, grape and chocolate notes.
Two coffees are marked in the shop as 2024 Golden Bean award winners: a natural Yellow Catuai from Finca Principito in Santa Rosa, Guatemala, and a washed Yirgacheffe from Kochere, Ethiopia. The Kenyan offering is a washed Batian lot from the New Murarandia farm in Muranga, roasted medium-dark, and the decaf comes from Peru. Besides fresh coffee for drinkers, the about page names support for the farmers who pick and process the beans as a goal.

Roast levels run light-medium and medium-dark. House blends include Pearl Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Guatemala El Principito, Kenya Murarandia and Ethiopia Yirgacheffe.
