Blind Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Hillsboro, founded in 2012. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Founder Tim Howard began in coffee in 1983 as an associate roaster in San Francisco and launched this company in October 2012. The name nods to Tim's type 1 diabetes and eyesight problems, and to the idea that coffee is judged by taste and smell. Coffee is roasted to order, and select custom blends send $5 per pound to charities.
Before starting the business, Tim Howard roasted at home as a hobby from the late 1990s. The site lists Holly as co-owner and COO and Sharayah as associate roaster and manager. The company says it buys straight from farms or co-ops when it can, and names coffees linked to Haiti earthquake relief and a women's co-op in Guatemala. According to its own news posts, it took 10 medals at Golden Bean North America 2024, its first gold among them, which sent Tim to the Golden Bean World Series in Antigua, Guatemala, in February 2025.
The home page describes the company as female veteran owned and says it has won a bronze at its first Golden Bean world championship.

House blends include Game Day Dark, Caturday Morning Blend, Roaster's Choice, Mayan Mix and Jabberwocky Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Shuar Shot Ecuador and Nayarita. Where to drink it
The Hillsboro cafe and tasting lab at the roastery opens Monday to Wednesday mornings, and it sells bags from all three roasters that share the space.

Why buying from Blind Coffee Roasters matters here
Fans in the Portland Timbers Army helped get the company started, and one of its supported charities is the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation. Customers asked for years where they could drink the coffee, and in December 2023 it began running a cafe and tasting lab in a Hillsboro roasting space shared with Roasted by Mom and Capitol Press Coffee. Farmers markets carry much of its retail trade. The 2026 schedule lists weekly stands in Cannon Beach, Seaside, Astoria, McMinnville, Gresham, Salem, Beaverton and at the Portland Saturday Market. Its partners page lists Zombie Coffee in Gladstone and Legacy Coffee Company in Gresham among the places that pour its beans.
