Longbottom Coffee & Tea is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Hillsboro, founded in 1981. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The company dates to 1981 and has been part of the Hillsboro community for more than 40 years. Its coffees are 100 percent Arabica and roasted with hot air, sold across many blends, flavored coffees, organic lots and single-serve pods. The company says it was among the first coffee roasters in the country to join the USDA National Organic Program, and that it served as a training test site for the Independent Organic Inspectors Association.
Its organic coffees are certified by Oregon Tilth, and the about page marks 20 years as a certified organic facility. Roasting happens on a bed of forced hot air, a fluid bed method first developed by Michael Sivetz. The company now runs Loring roasters for tighter control of each profile. Green beans come through trusted importers, and batches are roasted, blended and bagged by hand, with roasting done to order.
