Boring Bean is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Boring, founded in 2001. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Roasting began in 2001 at the job shack of Boring Bark, a landscaping business, with the first roaster set up outside the office door. Sales grew from pounds sold straight off the roaster, and the company moved into a permanent building with two more roasters. Its first coffee went to the Boring Bark landscaping crew and that company's customers, and the roasting side grew as the landscaping business did.
The stated mission is to sell organic beans at as fair a price as possible, and the homepage makes the case for Fair Trade as a way to raise small farmers' incomes. Monthly passport subscriptions tour three regions: Central and South America, Southeast Asia and Africa, with a Swiss Water decaf plan for those skipping caffeine. Coffees on offer include Chiapas Turquesa, organic Peru and Guatemala, Java Balwan, Papua New Guinea, Ethiopia Yirgacheffe, Kenya, and a high caffeine, low acid bean called White Lightning.

Locally owned, the company calls itself proud of Boring and says it keeps close ties to the community. Regulars come by the office to pick up bags, try new coffees and talk over the news, and the beans are also poured at Boring Bean Cafe. Wholesale accounts are offered, and all beans are roasted in house in Boring.
