Capitola Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Portland. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Begonia Blend is the house favorite. The cafe uses it several times a week for both espresso and drip, pairing a fruity Ethiopian with a nutty Latin American coffee. Subscribers get a rotating pick from the roster, shipped shortly after roasting, and cafes, restaurants and offices can apply for wholesale. Sea Bright, the second house blend, combines two coffees and is pitched as a cup for a cool morning walk on the beach.
Some Ethiopian lots come through importer Catalyst Trade, including a natural from Dinkalem Adema, a producer who runs a washing station and farm where Bita area growers sell their cherries. A recent Mexican offering, Cafe de Mujeres, came from 212 women growers in Chiapas who farm about 1.8 hectares each on average. The Costa Rica Tarrazu is a honey process coffee, and the decaf from Colombia's Valle del Cauca is made with ethyl acetate derived from sugar cane.

House blends include Begonia Blend, Sea Bright Blend and Half-Caf Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Costa Rica Tarrazu (honey), Ethiopia Guji, Mexico Chiapas Cafe de Mujeres and Guatemala Huehuetenango. Espresso: Begonia Blend.
