Carnelian Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Portland, founded in 2017. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Carnelian has roasted and served specialty coffee in Southeast Portland since late 2017, and its site jokes that it does so "amongst cool rocks." The current bean list is all single origins: a washed Chiapas Altura from Mexico, a honey processed La Bastilla from Nicaragua and an anaerobic natural from San Diego in Costa Rica's Tarrazu. The shop calls the Costa Rican lot the wildest coffee it sells, with notes running from blue raspberry and dragonfruit to cardamom.
Its Nicaraguan honey coffee is described as a throwback to some of the first staple profiles Carnelian served. Decaf is a Colombian coffee from Valle del Cauca, decaffeinated with the sugarcane process. Bags come in 12 ounce and 2 pound sizes, and the roaster will grind to order.

Single origins on the list when we checked: Mexico Chiapas Altura Superior Washed, Nicaragua La Bastilla Honey SHG and Costa Rica San Diego Tarrazu Natural Anaerobic.
