Mae Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Portland, founded in 2022. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Alex Olson founded the roastery in spring 2022 in the industrial part of Portland's Central Eastside. Mae calls itself an American Nordic roaster, shaping each profile to suit the individual coffee. Coffees come through importing partners, and the roaster says it returns to the same producers year after year.
Mae leans toward light, bright roasts meant to let each coffee show its own character. The team says every lot has to clear a sourcing checklist before it goes on the menu. Coffee is the main product, but the company also releases art and merchandise and runs pop ups. It lists community as its first value and treats hospitality as the core of the business.
What they roast
Roast levels run light. House blends include The Daily Blend, Berry Sweet and Session IPA. Single origins on the list when we checked: Finca Asturias, Colombia, La Cristalina, Colombia, San Isidro, Honduras, Namballe, Peru and La Roca, Colombia. Decaf: Palo Rosa Decaf, Colombia. Where to drink it
Visitors can stop by the Central Eastside roastery on weekdays from 8am to 5pm to buy beans, pick up online orders or join an open cupping. It does not pour espresso drinks in the usual cafe sense.

Why buying from Mae Coffee Roasters matters here
The SE 3rd Avenue roastery was the first Mae location open to the public. The production space also hosts events and pop ups, and customers can pick up online orders there for free. The events page announces a new space, a new roaster and a rebrand, and sets a holiday party at the roastery for December 11, 2026.
