Mutts Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Beaverton, founded in 2020. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
A team of two, Mark and Jaclyn, runs the company, with Mark as head roaster after about 20 years in specialty coffee. Jaclyn started as a barista in 2014 while studying anthropology at Portland State University and later managed several cafes. She also runs a dog training business. Mutts started out in late 2020 selling only on the web, shipping beans nationwide and selling locally to raise money for its rescue partners.
A monthly subscription pairs with the Angels With Misplaced Wings animal sanctuary, sending a bag that features a different rescued dog or farm animal each month. The Nicaragua Plumeria is a natural process light roast suggested for pour over and cold brew, while the Brazil is a washed coffee offered at medium and dark.

Every bag shows a rescued dog, and buyers pick which rescue group gets 25 percent of the profit from their order. Its first shop opened on September 20, 2023 in Old Town Beaverton, two blocks from Beaverton High School and two blocks from the Beaverton Farmers Market. The cafe has a board of adoptable shelter pets, a basket for donations to area rescues, a lending library of dog toys and a menu for dogs. In Portland's Montavilla neighborhood, the shop Zuckercreme pours Mutts drip and cold brew and sells its bags.
Every bag bought from a Beaverton roaster pays roasting and cafe wages in Oregon, and the coffee reaches you days after roasting instead of months. That is the reason the club exists. Why local roasters matter.
