Coffee in Beaverton

We list four roasters in Beaverton. The one with the deepest roots is Thornton Family Coffee Roasters, where Paul Thornton, roasting since 1982, works alongside seven of his children. AVA Roasteria roasts for its own cafes around the west and south suburbs. Mutts puts a rescued dog on every bag, and Sauvie Island Coffee Company's founder still does all the roasting herself.

Multnomah Coffee Club picks a different independent Oregon roaster for each box, and Beaverton's roasters are part of the state we choose from.

Beaverton's coffee story

Paul Thornton started roasting in 1982 as roastmaster at Coffee Bean International in Portland and stayed about 30 years. He is a past president of the Specialty Coffee Association and helped found the Roasters Guild. In 2017 he opened his own company with his daughter Rachel, who had spent 2012 to 2016 producing Kona coffee in Hawaii.

Mutts began in late 2020 as a web-only seller, raising money for its rescue partners. Its first shop opened on September 20, 2023 in Old Town Beaverton, with a menu for dogs.

Brenda Lord came to roasting from commercial video and a family farm. A stop at a roaster cafe in 2006 gave her the idea, and her own roaster arrived six months after a class in Sandpoint, Idaho. Zoning on Sauvie Island does not allow cafes, and she sold the Beaverton shop to Tall Fir Coffee at the start of 2025, so these days the coffee is poured at a summer cart at Columbia Farms and sold in the island's farm stores.

How we chose these roasters

Every roaster here roasts in Oregon and was operating when we read its own site, on the date its card shows (the list itself was last checked 2026-09-27). Facts come from each roaster's own pages, written in our words; we take nothing from reviews and show no ratings. No roaster pays to be listed, and a listing does not mean the roaster is part of the club. Run a roaster here and something is off? Email coffee@multnomahcoffeeclub.com and we correct or remove the page.
