Sauvie Island Coffee Company is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Beaverton. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Brenda Lord founded the company and still owns it and does the roasting herself. Coffees are roasted in small batches by hand, without the automation of large roasters, so each stage of the roast gets attention. The company says its Espresso Nectar Blend and a Brazil Swiss Water decaf each took a silver medal at the Golden Bean North America competition.
Before roasting, Brenda worked as a camera operator and editor in commercial video, then left in 2001 to help run a family farm that grew grass seed, silage corn, wheat and barley. A 2006 stop at a roaster cafe in Long Beach, Washington sparked the idea. She signed up for a class with Diedrich in Sandpoint, Idaho, and her own roaster arrived six months later. Its Brazil comes direct from JC Coffee Farms in Carmo de Minas, run by third and fourth generation growers Sergio and Ibraim, a relationship the owner had kept for over six years when she wrote about it.
What they roast
House blends include Espresso Nectar Blend, Sunrise Breakfast Blend and Migration Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Guatemala Huehuetenango, women produced, Cafe Femenino Sumatra Mandheling, Brazil Carmo De Minas and Ethiopia Yirgacheffe. Espresso: Espresso Nectar Blend. Where to drink it
There is no year-round cafe since the Beaverton shop was sold in early 2025; a coffee cart runs at Columbia Farms during summer u-pick season.

Why buying from Sauvie Island Coffee Company matters here
Zoning on Sauvie Island does not allow cafes, so the roaster is based off the island and runs a seasonal coffee cart at Columbia Farms during u-pick season. The Beaverton coffee shop changed hands at the start of 2025, when the company sold it to Tall Fir Coffee. Every farm store on Sauvie Island carries the coffee, as do World Foods on Barbur Boulevard in Portland, Linnton Feed and Market Fresh IGA in St. Helens. Brenda has lived on Sauvie Island for more than 20 years and grew up in the Pacific Northwest.
