Portland Cà Phê is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Portland, founded in 2020. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The company started in summer 2020 to bring beans grown in Vietnam to a specialty market where Southeast Asian coffee had little presence. Kim Dam leads a two-person team with help from Alex Tang. In spring 2021 she opened the first cafe in Southeast Portland, which the company calls the city's first Vietnamese specialty coffee house. Both robusta and arabica are roasted here, all grown in Vietnam's Central Highlands. Named sourcing partners include Future Coffee Farm and Mercon Specialty Coffee.
Kimberly Dam started roasting Vietnamese robusta as a hobby in 2020. She supplied beans to House of Banh Mi, a restaurant her mother owns, and to the food carts Mama Dut and Matta before opening a storefront. The Holgate Boulevard shop opened fully on April 23, 2021, after two days of limited hours. A second cafe, at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and NE Russell Street, opened on October 29, 2022.
