Puff Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Portland. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Puff is a newer venture from Duane Sorenson, who earlier founded Stumptown, and it operates out of Portland as a small roasting company of its own. The about page describes a plan of chasing unusual single origins while also building dependable blends, pitched at drinkers in the Pacific Northwest and farther afield. Coffee ships from Portland, with gift boxes, merch and a monthly gift subscription sold alongside the beans.
The Oregonian reported in June 2017 that Puff's roastery was being built behind Sorenson's restaurant, The Woodsman Tavern, around the corner from the first Stumptown cafe on SE Division Street. Stumptown was sold outright to JAB Holding in 2015, and a non-compete from that deal kept Sorenson out of coffee for a time. He told the paper he missed roasting and dealing directly with farms.
What they roast
House blends include Spirit Lifter Blend and Cold Brew Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia Guji, Mexico El Acido, Burundi Masha, Kenya Micro Lot, Guatemala Micro Lot and Ethiopia Micro Lot.
