Their story

Don Welch bought a small firm called Diversified Refreshment Systems in 1985, and his son Dan joined him in 1987. The pair began roasting under the World Cup name in 1993. The name plays on coffee's standing as the world's second most consumed drink after water. Most of the business is office coffee service across the Pacific Northwest, with coffee roasted the day before delivery and bags also sold online for home brewing.

In the early years, when office coffee was sold mostly on price, Don Welch tried to stand out through service and trained his staff to be knowledgeable and polite. The Welches say they learned roasting through industry classes, feedback from friends and plenty of mistakes, and their first World Cup coffees went to office clients.
