Backporch Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Bend, founded in 2006. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Backporch began with owner Dave Beach roasting on a popcorn popper on his back porch in college. It has roasted in Bend since 2006. Over nearly two decades it has grown to five cafes in Central Oregon, its own roasting and packaging facility and a staff of more than 40, and it sells coffee across the Pacific Northwest. The company buys directly from farms, with direct relationships in El Salvador, Guatemala, Colombia, Costa Rica and elsewhere. It has worked with the Menendez family in El Salvador for more than 13 years.
It roasts on two American-made Loring roasters, a 70 kilo Peregrine and a 15 kilo Falcon. The company says the Loring design uses up to 90% less fuel than conventional roasters and roasts without smoke. Its single origins sit at the lighter end of the range, with a handful of medium and dark roasts alongside, and no flavorings are added to any coffee. The Showcase Series is a premium line of micro lots chosen to show off terroir, variety and processing, from farmers the company has bought from for years.
What they roast
Roast levels run light, medium and dark. House blends include Backporch Blend, Singletrack, Peloton and Daybreak. Single origins on the list when we checked: Mexico Las Lajas Yellow Honey (Honey Bear), Colombia, Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Gedeb Wordeda and Kenya Kirinyaga Kiamugumo AA. Backporch Blend and Singletrack are roasted for espresso; both are medium roasts. One decaf; the method is not stated. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-27.
Where to drink it
Three Bend cafes, a Bend drive-up window and a Redmond cafe are open to the public. The roasting and packaging facility in Bend is not listed as open to visitors.

Owner Dave Beach calls Bend his hometown, and the company has a staff of more than 40. Its cafes serve food sourced daily from Haven bakery. The Redmond cafe shares its space with its friends at Bonta. The downtown Bend cafe hosts events, meetings and First Friday entertainment.
Its bags are sold at Central Oregon stores including Newport Ave Market, Market of Choice, Sunriver Marketplace and The Suttle Lake Lodge, and at Zupan's stores in the Portland area.
