Bohemian Roastery is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Bend, founded in 2017. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The Akers family started the company in Bend in 2017 after learning that most coffee is roasted with petroleum-fueled heat. They designed and built their own roaster fired by selected hardwoods, and they roast in eight pound batches. The family says the wood gives a gentler, moister heat that lets flavors develop slowly and cuts bitterness.
The company says it is one of only a handful of U.S. roasters using wood fire, and it claims the method keeps the coffee lower in acid. Ouroboros, the espresso blend, is all Arabica and was worked out through several years of trial and error, according to its product page. Green coffee is bought from small family farms around the world, many of them in developing countries, and the current menu even includes a Vietnam Robusta.
Subscribers save 10 percent and can choose weekly, every other week or monthly delivery, with a three order minimum.
