Bonsai Beans Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Bend. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Megan and Eli moved from long careers in the service industry into roasting, with Megan roasting every other day. Green coffee is bought from small, family-sized farms in Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Central and South America, and the roasted beans ship in biodegradable bags. Each blend name nods to a song: Funky Miracle is a naturally processed Brazil Cerrado roasted dark and named for a groove by the New Orleans band The Meters.
Two Sumatras sit on the menu, a Raja Batak peaberry sold as Daybreak on the Land and a triple-picked Saran Padang called Tiger in a Trance, both roasted medium. Travelin' Lite, the decaf, is a Fair Trade organic Peru processed by the Swiss Water method, and its name borrows from a JJ Cale song.
What they roast
House blends include Party at Your Mama's House, Til the Morning Comes, Shadow On The Sun, Daybreak on the Land, Tiger in a Trance, Funky Miracle and The Waker. Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia Yirgacheffe washed (Shadow On The Sun), Sumatra Raja Batak Peaberry (Daybreak on the Land), Sumatra Saran Padang (Tiger in a Trance), Brazil Cerrado natural (Funky Miracle) and Guatemala Huehuetenango (The Waker). Decaf: Travelin' Lite, Fair Trade organic Swiss Water Peru. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.

Eli plays Grateful Dead music in Central Oregon, and those songs inspire the blend names. Bend spots that carry or pour the coffee include Dudley's Bookshop Cafe, Newport Avenue Market and Redpoint Climbers Supply near Smith Rock. Eli plays in Call Down Thunder, a Central Oregon band that performs Grateful Dead songs. The stockist list also includes Market of Choice, the Galveston Pub run by Sunriver Brewing, Hayden Homes Amphitheater and Mountain Burger.
