Megaphone Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Bend. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Megaphone roasts every batch on a Diedrich IR 12 at its facility in Bend, near the foot of Mt. Bachelor. The company calls itself a hospitality business built around roasting, and its owner, known as Seany-P, hand delivers orders. Its house blends borrow sports imagery: Rally Cap is the espresso, Dark Horse the dark roast and Prize Fighter the light roast.
Single origins from Guatemala, Mexico, Ethiopia and Colombia round out the list, along with a decaf chosen by the roaster. The company roasts and ships once a week, and subscribers can take 12 ounce or 5 pound bags ground for anything from French press to AeroPress. The owners explain the name by pointing to the megaphone's long history in sports, politics and rallying crowds.
What they roast
Roast levels run Light and Dark. House blends include Rally Cap Blend (espresso), Dark Horse Blend (dark) and Prize Fighter Blend (light). Single origins on the list when we checked: Guatemala, Mexico, Ethiopia and Colombia. Espresso: Rally Cap Blend. Decaf: Roaster's choice decaf. Twelve ounce bags and bulk bins are sold at Bend grocers such as Market of Choice, Newport Market and Local Acres, and at Oliver Lemons in Terrebonne. Central Oregon spots from Sunriver to Prineville pour its espresso, drip and cold brew. Bend cafes and bars pouring it include Hawkeye & Huckleberry, Boss Rambler Coffee, River Pig and Dogwood at the Pine Shed, with Sweet Spot in La Pine farther south. Nitro coffee and cold brew concentrate go on tap at several of those spots and at the Blue Duck Saloon in Prineville.
