Big Mountain Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Lincoln Beach, founded in 2003. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Founded in 2003, the roaster works in one and two pound batches and focuses on organic, Fair Trade coffee. Its online shop covers drip blends, espresso blends, single origins, decaf and flavored coffees, shipped by UPS or USPS. It roasts beans it describes as grade 1 select organic on a microprocessor controlled roaster that turns green coffee into a finished roast in under twenty minutes.
Roasting is done where customers can watch, so the change from green to brown beans happens in plain view of the counter. Many coffees carry fantasy names, from Barbarian's Rage espresso to Druid's Balance of Nature, a Peruvian single origin sourced through the Cafe Femenino program for women farmers. Its Half Decaf Black Bear is made by roasting Swiss Water decaf and regular Guatemalan beans together, giving a full cup with about half the caffeine.

Roast levels run medium and dark. House blends include Newport Jazz Blend, Surfin' Safari Blend, Starborg Blend and Coastal Black Bear. Single origins on the list when we checked: Brazil Cerrado, Costa Rica, Sumatra Gayo, Peru (Druid's Balance of Nature) and Guatemala (Sorcerer's Dancing Lights). Espresso: Barbarian's Rage Espresso Blend; Grizz Espresso Blend. Decaf: Decaf Black Bear (Swiss Water); Half Decaf Black Bear. Why buying from Big Mountain Coffee Roasters matters here
The shop sits about two miles north of Depoe Bay and sells pastries from Depoe Baykery. The business first operated from a small cottage above Pirates Cove in Depoe Bay before moving to its current warehouse space next to Chester's. The warehouse cafe offers couches, bar seating and free wifi, and Fogarty Creek State Park is a few minutes away for drinking coffee by the waves.
