LEFT COAST Coffee Co. is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Depoe Bay. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Rebecca and JB Haslett run the company, whose beans reach area grocers, hotel rooms and about 50 local businesses. A second shop in a historic Nelscott building now houses its headquarters and handles web order shipping. The flagship Left Coast OG Blend is a medium roast of Pacific Island, Central and South American beans, and it comes in sizes from a 2 ounce sample to a 5 pound bag.
Nelscott Dark, named for the Lincoln City district, is an Italian style dark roast built from Colombian, Papua New Guinean and Guatemalan coffees. For a long stretch the Depoe Bay bar was the company's only retail counter, until the Nelscott space opened with room for web order fulfillment and latte art demonstrations.
What they roast
Roast levels run medium and dark. House blends include Left Coast OG Blend, Beach Blond Blend, Nelscott Dark Blend and Buck Badley's Fairweather Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Brazil Rainha, Colombia Huila Coocentral and Peru La Familia Guzman. Decaf: Sundog Decaf Blend; Devils Lake Decaf. The original bar faces the Spouting Horn in Depoe Bay, and a decaf takes its name from Devils Lake in Lincoln City. Guests find its coffee in roughly 800 hotel rooms, condos and vacation rentals around Lincoln County, including the Shearwater Inn, Looking Glass Inn and Pelican Shores. Pastries at Depoe Bay arrive overnight from Marsee bakery in Portland, while the Lincoln City shop gets daily baked goods from Avalanche Bakery. Free local delivery of beans covers most of north Lincoln County, roughly Newport to Otis, on orders over $22.
Every bag bought from a Depoe Bay roaster pays roasting and cafe wages in Oregon, and the coffee reaches you days after roasting instead of months. That is the reason the club exists. Why local roasters matter.
