Buckin Bean is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Pendleton, founded in 2012. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Owners Winston and Kirbie grew up in Pendleton and Baker City, then ran a coffee shop and bookstore on Prince of Wales Island in Alaska before coming home. Beans are roasted on site on a Diedrich IR-12, which handles about 25 pounds of green coffee per batch. In Alaska the couple bought Wheelhouse Coffee Roasters, a coffee shop and bookstore on the island. As e-readers cut into book sales and green coffee prices climbed, they turned the business toward roasting and selling beans around Southeast Alaska.
Island shipping costs and a new baby pushed them to move the business to Pendleton, where it reopened under the Buckin' Bean name in May 2012. The site calls it the only coffee roaster in Umatilla County. It also private labels coffee for five other sellers. Its infrared-burner Diedrich gives the roaster direct control over air flow and heat, which the owners credit for consistent small batches.
What they roast
House blends include Killer Blend, Breakfast Blend and Ranchers Roast. Single origins on the list when we checked: Certified Organic Papua New Guinea, Guatemala Tikal and Costa Rica. Espresso: Espresso Blend. A decaf is on the list. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.

The cafe menu uses meats from Hill Meats and bread from Rolling Stone Bakery, both local suppliers. The corner shop at NW 4th and Despain hosts sewing circles, book clubs and support groups, and describes itself as kid friendly and LGBTQ+ friendly. Wholesale partners get free local delivery, barista training and upkeep on their coffee equipment, and several area businesses pour its beans.
