Case Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Ashland, founded in 2006. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Married couple Tim and Kati Case opened their first Case Coffee shop in 2006 while still young. In 2010 Tim bought a vintage roaster and taught himself to roast. He went on to roast for their own shop and for a growing list of wholesale clients. Tim now works as the green coffee buyer and travels to farms through the year, while Kati helps buy green coffee and runs the cafes and wholesale side.
The couple describe a direct trade model and say they pay well above Fair Trade minimums; their Colombia origin report names producer Jorge Criollo of Narino as one grower they bought from in 2018. The Guatemala Chuito comes from Luis Pedro Zelaya's Bella Vista mill in Antigua, and Case says it has now bought from that mill for 14 straight years. Kenya Chorongi AA is processed at a factory in Nyeri with coffee from more than a thousand smallholders; Case picked the AA screen size, the largest beans in the lot.
Kati got her first coffee bar job close to 20 years ago and today oversees the cafes and wholesale accounts as well as assisting with green buying.
