Farmers Union Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Eugene. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
This small batch roastery works out of the historic Farmers Union Marketplace building in downtown Eugene. A rooftop solar array heats the water and feeds power to the local utility, and the retail bags are fully compostable. YirgZ is a washed Ethiopian from the Tamrat Alemayehu washing station in Kochere, and the roaster says its name refers to sorting stricter than the usual Grade 1 standard.
Clodhopper is the espresso blend, built to taste sweet in milk drinks, and Cultivator is the dark roast blend of direct relationship coffees from Brazil and Guatemala. An April 2026 post describes a visit to Finca Patzibir near Lake Atitlan, where fifth generation grower Andres Fashen farms organically under forest canopy with compost made on site. In December 2025 the company reported that a Eurofins lab test found no detectable mycotoxins in its Santa Isabel coffee from Guatemala.
The Adventure Seekers subscription ships a different single origin every month, and a Family Series plan sends a crowd-pleasing blend.

Single origins on the list when we checked: YirgZ, Ethiopia, Chelchele Anaerobic, Ethiopia, La Minita, Costa Rica, La Pradera, Costa Rica, Finca Patzibir, Guatemala, San Carlos, Guatemala, Frutado, Brazil and Santa Isabel, Guatemala.
