Moby Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Parkdale. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The roaster aims for smooth, easy-drinking coffees and writes about itself with a self-mocking sense of humor. Every online order goes onto the roast log first, and the beans are roasted, bagged and then shipped. Online orders are roasted on set days, with Tuesday as an example, so the whole cycle from order to shipping usually takes about five business days.
The roaster favors coffee from shade grown, mixed crop farms and picks Organic and Fair Trade lots when it can; its Uganda comes from a mostly woman-owned farm. Fathoms Deep, the dark roast, combines Uganda and Peru, while Heave Ho, the light roast, is a straight Uganda with orange zest and apricot notes. Both cafes pull espresso from Moby's own beans, use Holy Kakow syrups and Metolius chai, and chill iced drinks with coffee ice cubes.

Roast levels run light, medium and dark. House blends include Mt Hood Morning, Cooper Spur Roast, Moby's Finest Medium, Fathoms Deep Dark Roast, Heave Ho Light Roast and Roaster's Choice. Its top seller, Mt Hood Morning, and its Cooper Spur Roast carry names from the mountain above the Hood River Valley. Guest rooms at Cooper Spur Resort are stocked with the Cooper Spur Roast, and the Crooked Tree restaurant serves it as well. Bags are sold at Rosauers, FEAST and McIsaacs, among other stores, and Golden Goods also brews the coffee; the roaster caters events with air pots and food.
