Nectar of Life Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Brookings, founded in 2003. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Martin and Hannah Jennings founded the company in January 2003 with a rule that every coffee must carry both organic and Fair Trade certification. Martin, the master roaster, studied viticulture and enology at UC Davis and made wine in California and Washington before switching to coffee. Each coffee is roasted on its own profile before it goes into a blend, and wholesale boxes are collected and reused.
The roaster lists USDA Organic and Fair Trade certification and FDA registration, buys shade grown coffee when it can, and says it never uses robusta. Beans are bagged in valve-sealed bags within hours of roasting, and blends draw on coffees from countries such as Bolivia, East Timor, Honduras, Papua New Guinea and Peru. The company backs the Catholic Relief Services ethical trade program, and it has staff who can help customers in North Idaho and Spokane.
Its catalog includes espresso blends named Old Faithful and Ultimate Espresso, 5 pound bags of Namataste and Pistol River Blend, and single origins such as Guatemala Nahuala and a natural Sulawesi.

Single origins on the list when we checked: Colombia, Sumatra, Guatemala Coban Fuego, Nicaragua, Guatemala Nahuala, Peru Norte, Papua New Guinea, Timor, Sulawesi Natural and Bolivia Cenaproc. There is no cafe; retail sales happen only through the website, and roastery tours are by appointment.

Its roasting happens on Oregon's south coast, in the stretch of Curry County that runs from Gold Beach down to Brookings-Harbor. The owners say they skipped opening a cafe to concentrate on roasting, and they pitch themselves to people opening coffee stands or cafes on the Oregon Coast. Visitors can arrange a tour of the low-input roasting facility by appointment through the contact form.
