Sisters Coffee Company is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Sisters, founded in 1989. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Winfield and Joy Durham moved to Sisters and began roasting in a small log cabin, starting with a five pound roaster. The family has run the company since 1989. The company says it became Central Oregon's first specialty coffee roaster, growing one customer relationship at a time. More than three decades on, it is led by the Durhams' sons Justin, Jared and Jesse. It now roasts more than 500,000 pounds of coffee a year and runs four cafes. Its 25 kg Probat, nicknamed Ruby for its red color, was in use from 2005 and roasted up to 400,000 pounds in its final year before the move to a new facility with a 45 kg Probat.
Blends are the core of the business. Each component is roasted on its own before blending, blends lean medium to dark, dark roasts stop short of second crack, and every batch is controlled by hand rather than automated. Roasting in the high desert brings its own problems: seasonal temperature swings change how heat behaves in the roaster, so profiles need constant adjustment. The team cups coffees five days a week. Sourcing relationships run long. It has bought from the Villatoro family in Guatemala for 21 years and from the Nyampinga cooperative in Rwanda for 11, where staff ran a marathon in Kigali in 2016 to raise money for a water pump. Purchases from Peru's Rutas del Inca grew from 1,900 pounds in 2018 to more than 10,000 pounds a year.
What they roast
Roast levels run medium, dark and lighter roasts for some single origins. House blends include Black Butte Gold, Sisters Blend, River Blend, High Desert Sunrise, Espresso Blend, French Roast and Friends of the Children Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Mexico San Juan Coatzospam, Mexico Mixteca Yosotatu Community, Guatemala Villaure Primos Unidos, Burundi Heza Nkonge (washed), Ethiopia Ardi Natural Sidama and Tanzania Umoja Washed Peaberry. Espresso Blend, built for chocolate richness with some acidity. Black Butte Gold Decaf; the decaf method is not stated. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-27.
Where to drink it
The flagship cafe in downtown Sisters is open daily. The roasting facility on Sun Ranch Dr lists tours and a cafe as coming later, so visitors should go to the cafes.

The flagship cafe sits in a cabin in downtown Sisters, and the roastery is also in Sisters, on Sun Ranch Dr. Since 2024 it has donated $2 from every bag of Friends Blend to Friends of the Children in Central Oregon and Portland, a youth mentoring nonprofit founded by Duncan Campbell, a longtime customer and mentor to the company. Its Bend cafes sit in the Old Mill District along the Deschutes River and at Jackstraw near the Box Factory, and it has a cafe in Portland's Pearl District.
