Their story
Sleepy Monk is a small-batch roaster in Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast that has spent decades roasting organic specialty coffee. All of its coffees are specialty grade and sourced internationally, roasted in small batches on the outskirts of Cannon Beach, in a range from medium single origins to dark and French roasts. For years its coffee shop was a local fixture, known in summer for a line out the door with people and dogs lounging outside, and in winter for a steady stream of regulars. Visitors to Cannon Beach, Seaside and Manzanita came to know it the way residents already did.
The coffee shop has since closed for good. The roastery is still fully operating, though closed to visitors, and the company keeps selling fresh roasted coffee through its online store and to wholesale accounts. Its wholesale customers include grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques and hotels on the coast and further afield. Rusty Nail, a dark roast blend, has been on the menu since the coffee shop first opened.
Gaelic Grounds, a blend of medium and dark roasts, has been one of its most popular coffees for more than 20 years, and Oregon Fog was inspired by the fog that rolls over the coast.

House blends include Rusty Nail (French roast), Monastery Blend (dark), Oregon Fog (dark), Muddy Waters (dark), Sligo Sludge (medium), Gaelic Grounds (medium dark), Monk's Choice Blend (medium dark), Fiddlers Fusion (medium dark), Bogmans Brew (dark) and Cannon Beach Brackish Brew (French roast). Single origins on the list when we checked: Costa Rican (medium), Mexican (medium), Ethiopian (medium), Sumatra (medium, wet-hulled), Dark Brazil, Dark Roast Peru, Dark Roast Uganda, Dark Guatemalan, French Roast Peru and French Roast Sumatra. Espresso Blend, plus a decaf espresso blend. Decaf Medium Mexico, Decaf Dark Honduras, Decaf House Blend and a decaf espresso; methods not stated.
