Smith Rock Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Redmond. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
This woman-owned, small-batch roaster describes itself as based in Central Oregon and says it buys traceable beans from ethical farms. The shop sorts coffees into medium and dark roasts and sells a sample pack for trying several at once. An archived 2022 copy of the website placed the roastery in Redmond, with a shop open six days a week that sold coffee by the cup and the pound along with breakfast.
In 2022 the roaster also supplied grocery stores and small shops around Central Oregon and ran a mobile coffee trailer for events around the Northwest. The current site no longer lists a shop or hours.
What they roast
Roast levels run Medium and Dark. House blends include Espresso Blend, Golden Hour, Misery Ridge Blend and Morning Bloom. Single origins on the list when we checked: Peruvian, Brazil, Nicaraguan and Guatemalan. Espresso: Espresso Blend. A decaf is on the list. The dark Misery Ridge Blend shares its name with the Misery Ridge Trail, one of the main hiking routes at Smith Rock State Park near Terrebonne. Golden Hour blends Central and South American beans, the Peruvian single origin is organic, and the decaf is Swiss Water processed. A sample box holds four coffees, picked by the buyer or left as a surprise.
