Surf Town Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Oregon: an independent roaster based in Newport. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Owned by Bredon Mathews, the company roasts organic, fair trade coffee in small micro batches in Newport. Six roasts run from light to extra dark, and the same site sells Mathews Wild Seafood canned albacore. The Stay Positive bag features roast master Russell Burns, who the company says has survived a rare brain cancer three times. The phrase doubles as its motto.
Deadliest Dark Roast honors the people who fish and work the cold waters running from the Oregon coast up to Alaska. Great White Coffee is roasted to keep caffeine high, and the shop labels it with a caffeine warning.

Why buying from Surf Town Coffee Roasters matters here
Its bags are stocked in Newport shops such as Oceana Natural Foods Co-Op and poured at Rogue Ales on the Bayfront. The about page lists two locations on Newport's historic Bayfront and says the owner hopes to open in other coast towns. Stores can carry its beans in bags or in bulk dispensers with a grinder on site, and the roaster supplies the setup for either option.
