• Caravan Coffee: its tasting room at 2750 E Ninth St pours coffee flights. It buys green coffee against a written standard it calls S.E.T., which asks for social impact where the coffee grows, sustainable farming and traceability to a farm or cooperative.

Dundee

• Pacifik Coffee Roasters: Chris and his wife started it in 2017. The family lives in Eugene, and the roasting now happens in a space in Dundee, once or twice a week. Each product page names the farms behind the coffee.

McMinnville

• Flag & Wire Coffee: roasts, brews and sells from one cafe and roastery on NE Alpine Ave. For about its first two years it roasted only single origins, and it held off on a blend until it knew what one should do.

Newberg's coffee story

Caravan's founder, Pete Miller, bought an old Cape Cod style house down the street from George Fox University, moved his family in and opened a cafe in the garage. Caravan calls it one of the first coffee shops in northwest Oregon. The garage also held a bakery, a bookstore and live music.

The business outgrew the garage and moved to a bigger roastery, where visitors now come to the tasting room. The tasting room leans on wine country: its Northwest Pine Latte uses a house syrup of pine, juniper and vanilla.

Flag & Wire was founded in McMinnville in 2013. Benevolence, a gentle cup with notes of baker's chocolate, came out of that wait. Road Trip, its darkest roast, started as a brewed coffee for restaurants and cafes, and its wholesale coffee goes to cafes, hotels, wineries and offices.

Pacifik's espresso blend pairs Brazil Salmo Plus, a mix from five farms in the Cerrado and Sul de Minas, with a coffee from Narino in Colombia.

Yes. The tasting room at 2750 E Ninth St was open Monday to Saturday when we checked (weekdays 7am to 3pm, Saturday 9am to 3pm), with coffee flights, guided tastings and tours.

Is Pacifik Coffee Roasters based in Eugene or Dundee?

Both, in a way. The owners live in Eugene, and the company moved its roasting to a space in Dundee.
