Coffee in Salem

We list eight roasters in and near Salem: seven in the city and one in Silverton. The oldest is The Governor's Cup, a downtown coffee house open since 1991. One of the newest grew out of it: Prismatic's co-founder used to roast for the Gov Cup. Bon Mua Oregon and Salem Coffee Roaster belong to one family and share a roastery on Silverton Road.

  • Silver Falls Coffee Co.: started in 2009 by Eric and Tamara Dahl with their three children. Cafes inside Silver Falls State Park pour its coffee.

Salem's coffee story

The Governor's Cup has been open since 1991 and calls itself Salem's longest-running coffee house and small-batch roaster.

Prismatic's founders met across a counter: Ariel Ellis was a regular at the Salem cafe Evan Delgado co-owned. They started in December 2022 with wholesale roasting and canned cold brew, and from the summer of 2023 a teal Citroen coffee truck parked downtown on weekdays for close to a year.

Bon Mua first sold green beans to wholesalers. Salem shoppers later found its roasted coffee at E Z Orchards Farm Market.

In Silverton, the Dahls do their own roasting, bagging and distribution. Head roaster Mark Kaser is Eric's cousin, and in January 2020 the company bought Rosie's Mountain Coffee House in Mill City.
