Coffee in Corvallis
Two of Corvallis's roasters have unusual starts. Holderness Coffee Roasters grew out of a cafe, Coffee Culture, that opened in town in 1993 and began roasting its own beans in 2012. Howling Hounds Coffee Roasters was founded in 2016 by a 14-year-old in California and is now based in Corvallis. Multnomah Coffee Club ships a bag from a different independent Oregon roaster in each box, and the mid-valley roasters are part of the state we draw from.

Corvallis's coffee story
Corvallis had a population of 61,499 in the Census Bureau's July 2025 estimate, and its coffee history runs through two very different starts.
The first is a cafe that learned to roast. Coffee Culture opened in Corvallis in 1993, and in 2012 it began roasting. The roasting side took the name Holderness Coffee Roasters. Here the cafe came first and the roastery grew out of it.
The second came from out of state. Reid Burford founded Howling Hounds in 2016 in Benicia, California, when he was 14 years old. The company later moved north, and Corvallis is now its base, so a business a teenager started in Benicia now roasts in the Willamette Valley.
